The Winter Term promises to be an exciting one in the Book Arts Workshop with short classes such as:
- Getting Text and Image on the Page: Photocopy Transfer
- The Treasure Box
- Printing on the Platen Press
- Stencil: An Illustration Technique
- The Double Fan Adhesive Book
- Sewn Boards Binding
- Jacob’s Ladder
The introduction of a new longer-term class called “The Front Page —“Hot Type” in the Early Days of Newspapers” as well as part two of the Fall Term’s Letterpress Intensive will add some further depth to the Book Arts Workshop offerings.
We’ll be offering a number of short basic bookbinding classes and letterpress orientations to prepare you for your open studio projects.
For inspiration we’ll be launching the Book Arts lectures with food series, called Book Arts Talks and Snacks—or BATS. The first one will be about Sarah Smith’s experience with some southern letterpress shops such as Hatch Show Print, Yee-Haw Industries, and Asheville Bookworks.
Also new to the Workshop is the Term Project. This is a term long project/call for work with an assigned theme and structure for students to work on in our open studios or at home. An exhibition/celebration of the work will occur at the end of the term.
